When a woman looks at a housing listing, she is asking a question the listing almost never answers: who else lives here?
Rent, location, move-in date. All of that matters. But none of it matters much if you are going to lie awake the first night doing the math on who is on the other side of the wall. You already know that calculation. You have probably done it before.
So we did not put women in a house. We gave them the house.
This is the part that gets lost when people search for women’s shared housing in Los Angeles. Most of what comes up is a mixed house with one room set aside, which is not the same thing at all.
Here it is the whole home. Every resident is a woman. The house manager is a woman. There is no version of the day where you are the only one, or the one who has to stay alert.
That changes what the space actually feels like. You leave your things in the bathroom. You come out of your room in whatever you are wearing. You make coffee at 6am without thinking about it. Small things, until you have lived without them.
The same standard as every other house
Safe is the starting point, not the whole offer. The women’s house runs on the same standard as the rest:
- Clean when you get home, because everyone here holds that line
- Quiet when you need rest, headphones on, no exceptions
- Substance free, so the environment stays steady
- All utilities included, nothing extra appearing later
And getting in does not require a perfect year behind you
No credit check. No security deposit. We accept General Relief through DPSS and other third party assistance, and plenty of residents pay out of pocket. Nobody here is going to ask you to explain a hard stretch before handing you a key.
Because a woman looking for a safe place to live should not have to pass a background test to get one.
You do not have to be social to belong here
Some residents cook together most nights. Some keep to themselves and just like knowing the house is full of people who would notice if something was wrong. Both are completely fine. The company is there when you want it and never pushed on you when you do not.
To be clear about what we offer: we rent beds in shared rooms, not private rooms. Every resident has a roommate, and that is what keeps the cost as low as it is.
